I'd like to add one more point to this discussion. Write for the hypothetical 
competent sysadmin, but make sure it's a hypothetical competent sysadmin 
responding to an emergency at 3am. If the documentation is not clear enough 
that a bleary eyed fuzzy brained sysadmin can't follow it when responding to an 
emergency in the middle of the night, it's not good enough.
