There will be users who will like the symlinks, but there will be also users who will dislike them (have we thought of them too?). If a user likes the symlinks, he/she may create by himself/herself after upgrading to potato: cd /usr/share/doc for a in `ls`; do ln -s ../share/doc/$a /usr/doc/$a done This is a much more effective way to achieving the same goal (having symlinks), but only people who dislike having docs in /usr/share/doc would have to do it.
