Please describe how they are being "punished". If I choose not to use
a tool (and there are many legitimate reasons not to use debhelper or
debstd), then I can hardly complain that I don't get the benefits of
using that tool. I certainly can't call myself punished.

(On the other hand, don't bother. A few more minutes thought convinces
me my mind is closed on this topic; I can't think of any argument that
justifies the term "punished".)
