   Good point. I agree this would be better handled separately from this fix.
   
   Rejecting lossy INT/LONG -> DECIMAL evolution in `SchemaChangeUtils` would 
change the DDL validation behavior, while this PR keeps the existing evolution 
policy and makes the read path safe when an existing value cannot be 
represented.
