Thanks, Paul. The 3M VHB/Dow 795 window replacement technique is what I was referring to in my earlier e-mail. Thanks for sharing your great info!

From my experience, it performs much better than the better known marine sealants (3M 4200/4000UV, BoatLife, …) and a 11oz cartridge cost only $13 (I buy both butyl and 795 from McMaster-Carr). I used black Dow 795 to seal new acrylic lenses in my A&H deck hatches(blog links below). I also used the 795 to adhere the EDPM foam cord seal to the frame with great success (works better than the A&H’s recommended Silaprene). I first used Dow 795 with 3M VHB tape to install new fixed ports. After 10 years, I have had no problems with these ports. https://svjohannarose.blogspot.com/search/label/HatchWork https://svjohannarose.blogspot.com/2019/01/replace-atkins-hoye-hatch-lens.html https://svjohannarose.blogspot.com/search/label/NewPorts About 5 years ago I had a leak coming in around the deck hatch frame, the one just fore of the mast. I intended to rebed the frame with butyl but temporarily clean out the old sealant along the deck hatch seam and added a small bead white Dow 795 using a syringe, making sure to push the sealant into any space between the frame and deck. It was a quick fix which has remained leak free. I’ll rebed when it leaks and may use Dow 795. A tube of 795 keeps well for years if kept in the freezer. The tube I used for the quick fix was several years old which had been stored in the freezer compartment onboard. I had originally purchased the white Dow 795 for sealing a new stemhead bow roller. https://svjohannarose.blogspot.com/2018/06/stemhead-replacement.html - Paul E. 1981 C&C Landfall 38 S/V Johanna Rose Fort Walton Beach, FL http://svjohannarose.blogspot.com/ >> >> >>> On Jun 29, 2025, at 11:11 PM, Fred Hazzard via CnC-List >>> <cnc-list@cnc-list.com> wrote: >>> >>> My forward hatch is leaking. >>> What should I use to re bed the hatch to the deck. >>> Also what do l use to secure the plexiglas to the frame. >>> >>> Fred Hazzard >>> S/V Fury >>> C&C 44 >>> Portland Or >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> Your contributions help pay the fees associated with this list and help to keep it active.
