Things I learned relocating winches:
Winches need to be positioned so the heaviest loads, like jib and main
halyards, align with the right side of the drum. You can reduce a lot of
needless friction in these halyards sometimes by changing the lead to the
clutch most directly aligned to the right side of the winch drum. Upwind
halyard loads approach a thousand pounds while the other lines are in the
hundreds. Jib and main halyards should have the fairest run, and best sheaves
from blocks at the mast base to organizers through clutches to the winch and
they should be on separate winches so they can be tuned individually at the
same time going upwind.

Consult your manufacturer's website for the proper distance between winch and
clutch. You can induce friction if you place them too close to the winch.

G10 works great to form a nice flat base on a curved deck or cabin top. I used
1/16" for a solar fan and found it to be just as stiff as the 1/8" and 1/4"
thick material. I cut the G10 first a little larger than the shape of the item
being mounted, and then used thicken epoxy to set it in position. I left the
edge square and later made a fillet around the base and smoothed with a finger,
sanded and painted to protect from UVs.
