It makes sense that an undersized wire may explain the high failure rate. I have seen similar issue regarding premature windlass motor failures where undersized wiring was installed.
Johanna Rose came with a Tsunami T-500 and simple Rule-a-matic float switch. I felt a little uncomfortable relying on a $30 float switch and a $15 pump, so I added a Rule 1500 bilge pump as a backup. But that said, the little old T-500 pump and float switch have yet to fail. I am glad to see discussions on the automatic switches. I have been considering the Water Witch switch based on a Practical Sailor comparison test. The Ultra Mini looks interesting but also costly. - Paul E. 1981 C&C Landfall 38 S/V Johanna Rose Fort Walton Beach, FL http://svjohannarose.blogspot.com/ > On Jul 25, 2018, at 8:36 AM, cnc-list-requ...@cnc-list.com wrote: > > Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2018 07:35:39 -0500 > From: "Dennis C." <capt...@gmail.com <mailto:capt...@gmail.com>> > To: CnClist <cnc-list@cnc-list.com <mailto:cnc-list@cnc-list.com>> > Subject: Re: Stus-List I am so done with bilge pumps... > Message-ID: > <CANir+yuC0j3djgtP7oE3EOc8tMW0nuM+UShwzGg3Mz=1awj...@mail.gmail.com > <mailto:CANir+yuC0j3djgtP7oE3EOc8tMW0nuM+UShwzGg3Mz=1awj...@mail.gmail.com>> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" > > I was referring to premature failure of pumps due to low voltage.
