Couple things on bilge pump hoses.

First, yesterday the Admiral heard water squirting and immediately saw drips on
the cabinetry outboard of the settee. Investigation showed the bilge hose
split at the thru hull. It exits port side midships just below gunwale, I had
just run an instrument cable under the settee seat where the hose runs. Must
have moved it. After 15+ years the hose had gotten brittle. Just a little
movement split it.

Lesson: hose is cheap. Check often and replace as required or use the pricey
stuff.

Next. Touché's original electric bilge pump and the manual pump both exited the
starboard quarter under gunwale. I moved the electric to port side. Filled the
hole before paint job couple years ago.

I do have check valve in the electric pump hose. The 35-1 sump is so shallow
the discharge would mostly just fill the hose and drain back. The check valve
is a Whale brand made for bilge hoses. Never had an issue with it in 15+ years.
It's a simple flapper style. Fairly foolproof.
