Every year we have the USC Power Squadron volunteers come to our club and do safety inspections that, if we pass, provide a sticker that verifies that our vessels are in full compliance with all state and USCG safety regs. This is supposed to lessen the chances of being boarded or at least make the process less onerous. So far, I have not tested this.

Alera has a routed wooden plaque screwed to the bulkhead under the stairs. with the number on it. It has always been fine until last year. The inspector told be that the attachment might not be up to regs due to the fact that it was screwed on (though I suspect if it was also cemented on it would be fine). He also said that in addition to the number the "No." was required to be on the plaque. Seemed sort of stupid to me, but that's what he said. He also suggested the etching it into the cross member in the bilge where it is readily visible and accessible would be a better solution.

P.S. Please take a moment to trim your messages when replying. Some of these lately have been stupid long...
