We had our C&C36 from 1981 to 1990 and it was registered under the name “Blue
Horizon No. 1”. Being a kid I had no idea about how the registration process
worked only that it meant you did not require registration numbers to be
displayed on the bow (ex. 11A….).

A year ago we registered Persistence as Persistence IV out of Halifax, NS.
Previously it was in fact registered as Persistence out of Padanaram, MA.
There was (and actually still is) a wooden block affixed inside the anchor
locker in the vee berth displaying the Padanaram registration number. It was
great fun trying to find that while on the phone to customs while entering
Halifax Harbour during delivery from MA to NS in July 2014. As a requirement
of our registration as Persistence IV in Canada we are required to affix the
registration number somewhere in the hull and the idea is to put a plate with
the new number over the old number from MA.

I had always thought my father a stickler for regulations but last Fall while
cleaning out a storage room and filing cabinets in the family home I came
across a 5 x 3 “ engraved plate with Blue Horizon No. 1 Halifax NS and a
registration number. Since I know Brian Todd who now owns that boat I taped it
to the boat’s cradle. Now it is closer to where it should have been since 1980
when the boat was registered. Irony

They don't have to be displayed in your cabin, just somewhere permanent. The
inside of a cockpit locker will do, as long as they are permanently attached to
the boat...or you can make a good argument that they are.

Greetings from frozen north...

I have not permanently displayed my USCG vessel documentation numbers in my
cabin. If anyone is documented, do you have advice, suggestion, experience
and/or pics you could share for doing this? I have seen some poor examples,
and am puzzled as to where to display these on my 35 mk3? Help? Thanks!!
