Joel,

.gpx are the most widely supported files used by various GPS s/w. They are text
files, so they are almost human readable, as well. Garmin s/w (MapSource,
BaseCamp) can import and export those (e.g. for route planning or waypoints (or
for track recording)). Other vendors support that format, as well. This format
can be also easily converted to many others, as required.

Joel,

I am looking at OpenCPN for another reason, but it exports a .gpx file and I
don't know what that is or what accepts it as an input.

Fred,

What do you think of Raymarine RayTec RNS Navigation Software?
