I have repowered with Westerbeke 40 4-108 3 years ago. Since then, I've been using exclusively gas station diesel that I get from jerry cans. Simply because it's cheaper. So far I have not had any signs of issues. Winterizing procedure involves adding diesel stabilizer and replacing both fuel filters. I try to keep the tank as full as possible to eliminate condensation. This keeps me away from mega yachts at the Newport fuel docks, and saves me few $$. If anything, marina diesel fuel is more prone to having issues unless it's a high traffic fuel dock. If you get diesel from a high traffic truck stop fuel station, you are more likely to get good quality diesel that was not sitting for too long. I am curious what other think in terms of the two sources of diesel.

The article did not go into detail as to whether or not there is actually a difference between the two. I always thought that a 'diesel engine' whether marine or otherwise burned the same fuel Was this simply the 'writer's interpretation' in that diesel used for marine purposes is somehow different from diesel used for say, diesel powered automobiles? This is probably a stupid question and if so, tell me.
