Depending on the predominant wind conditions where you sail order a 135 (140?)%
or 150 (155)% with the furler conversion. Unless you race you can hoist that
sail on the furler and leave it for the season. If the sail is made this way,
you can reef it on the furler, as well, so you can make it appear like a 100%
or even 50%. The shape would not be overly good, but it will work just fine.
Unless you are interested in some high tech sails, I bet that you can have a
135% genoa made for around $1k (some places would quote you even triple, but
you don’t have to buy from them) – and I am talking about a sail made in-shore
(not mail ordered from China).

I think that the furler will run around $1.5k. Add to it a few hundred for
unstepping the mast (and stepping it back up), though, I have heard of people
who installed furlers with the mast in place (mast being held in place by the
jib halyard).

So, in my book, it does not make much sense to convert your existing sails.

good luck

Marek

Old sails are mostly junk anyway so the the best of them and get it converted
and use the rest for something else.

No you cannot use hank on sails with a roller and it typically costs about $400
per sail to change. So if the sails are over 10 years old (unless a storm
sail) then don’t worry about the rest of them

Subject: Stus-List Hank on conversion to roller? Yes or no

if anybody has been reading my post in the last 2 years you know that I'm green
at big boat sailing. I have learned how to sail the C&C30 MK1 using all hank on
sails. that's a:
115%
135%
155%
and a 170%
We just got back from a bare boat charter in the BVI. I sailed 7 days on a
Jeanneau 36i with a roller. Man what a dream that roller furling system was.
How much trouble will it be to convert my boat? Could I use one of the head
sails to convert or do I have to buy a new sail? Will all my head sails become
un-usable at that point? It may not be worth the money or the wast of the old
sails? Please comment on this if you k now cost of a conversion or advice in
this process.
Thanks so much for your help.

Curt,
