Jim — my 1979 LF38 has Moor instruments that still work; and Moor is still around, located in Buffalo, NY http://www.moorelectronics.com/ . They’ve been very helpful on the phone when I’ve been working on both my instruments, and those on other boats.
Having said that, they’re pretty old technology, and won’t interface with other gear on the boat. For not much more $$$, you can get into much more modern electronics. I’ve installed quite a bit of Raymarine gear, and while they have their (very vocal) detractors on this list and elsewhere, the new instruments (i50, i60 and i70) they’re selling are quite good, and a good value. It’s mostly a matter of what you’re looking for in features, as well as how interconnected you want things to be. In your area, I would think actual current would be a good thing to know; with a modern knotmeter interfaced with a chartplotter/gps, current direction and speed can be calculated pretty accurately. You can’t do that with stand-alone instruments like the Moors.
