Jim: I've had Raymarine gear on my boats for many years, and have sold and
installed a ton of it on other boats. Once in a while a failure occurs, but
from my point of view they are rare. I personally have not had any failures
that could not be traced to wiring/connection/connector problems. I work with
The Binnacle where we sell other brands too such as Garmin and Hummingbird. My
sense is that marine electronics are becoming much like automobiles and TV's in
that all brands are quite reliable and work well in adverse conditions. Also,
many of the problems that appeared to be endemic years ago are now things of
the past.
