I would go nuts with the traveler across the bridge deck. It would hose up how my dodger works and be a danger to people entering or exiting the cabin. I also love being able to drop the traveler without leaving the helm. YMMV and all ;)
As for the mast step, the 35 MK I can suffer from a rotten mast step. I do not know if the MK II is any different. Good news is it is a relatively easy and cheap repair if you do it yourself. It is NOT the same as the issue with the MK III and maybe some others that involves the structure of the hull. Also if the MK II is like the MK I it is not hard to figure out if the boat has the issue from inside the boat. Joe Della Barba C&C 35 MK I
