Covering a few things on the same topic. 1) ST50 Speed System ( Z095 & Z092 )
Wire colour code: Screen - 0 volts - ground Red - 5 volts - power Green - 0 to 5 volt log pulse measured from green to screen, from speed sensor Yellow - Temperature 1 Blue - Temperature 2 Power up the equipment and check for 5 volts red to screen. You may have a junction box somewhere already, if not you may have to cut the cable. If there is no voltage the instrument is faulty or the cable is open somewhere. Measure between green ( + ) and screen ( - ) and rotate the paddle wheel. Some voltage should be present that increases with speed. If there is no voltage the transducer is likely defective. If the temperature reading is not working or wrong you will need a 1,000 ohm resistor to test with. Disconnect the transducer from the back of the instrument. Looking into the connector you will see five pins, and a locator tab at the bottom. Pins are numbered from 1 clockwise, starting just to the left of the tab ( about 8 o'clock ). Connect the 1000 ohm resistor between pins 1 and 2, instrument should read 25C. 2) True wind reading from wind instrument I believe you need a working signal from the speed instrument ( Tri-data ) to get true ( TWS and TWA ). In my setup, which is similar to yours, the wind instruments will not substitute COG from the GPS. 3) Nav-data Your Nav-data is a course computer and will work with the ST4000. I see in your list you do not mention a SeaTalk GPS, do you have one? I have one installed and can set a course in the Nav-Data that the ST4000 follows. The Nav-data is involved to set up a course with, only 4 buttons and limited text display. I think there was various firmware releases, but with mine there is no friendly tagging of destination. You get them by number, like 11 - 12 - 13 and lat/long, so you need a note to know where you are going. The combination works well, you can set up a trip and use waypoint advance etc. NOTE - on my setup the Nav-data when configured with a destination does take over the ST4000. The ST4000 needs to be engaged but as soon as I set a course up the ST4000 heads to it. The Nav-data does not have a "turn off navigating" setting - totally bizarre - so you need to leave one of the destinations blank and select it. This is a detail not easily understood from the manual. Michael Brown Windburn C&C 30-1
