Tom, thanks for the inquiry; thee are many other 33 owners on this list who can
give equal or better summaries about the 33; and yes, my 33 is a centerboard
model; for me, the 33 is a great family boat; it is roomy and easily handled;
there are lots of places for younger persons to be involved, at a level
commensurate with their experience and interest; for children, it can be a
very rewarding learning experience to man the helm, trim the sheets and figure
our the charts and courses; I recall that my daughter, when she was about six,
announced that our boat (at that time) was her "gym set". The 33 is very
stable; (there is a chart on the photo album site that show the stability of
most all of the C&C models); I haven't race much, but I do firmly believe that
she would hold her own if properly fitted with racing sails and a good crew!
As for the mast step, we did repair the mast step on our boat and it is not
difficult to figure out, but it is somewhat labor intensive; I would not (and
didn't at the time of purchase) consider it a deal breaker; in fact, I feel
much better now, because I know what under the mast and I have the confidence
that it was done right. Also, as stated above, there are several other
listers who have done the same on all different C&C models and I haven't heard
of anyone not getting the job done and having a better boat afterwards; (there
is a wealth of experience and talent on the list-use it!);

For Lake Superior, I would guess you want a deep keel boat; get one and go
sailing!

Richard,

Congrats on your new boat. I'm in the market for my first C&C. Growing up my
family owned a C&C 25, C&C 34, and I raced on a C&C 35 MK II.

I'm looking for a boat for Bayfield WI on Lake Superior for my young family, I
have two boys age 7 and 4. My search has narrowed to the 33 MKII, perhaps you
can express opinion on the merits of the 33 for a family boat.

I'm interested in fixed keel model, I assume the 33 you are selling has the
shoal draft. I see a listing for a 33 MKII in Kentucky with a shoal draft.

As understand it, the 33 MKII has issues with the mast step / keel sump. Did
you encounter this with your boat? If yes, what is involved in this repair as
for as cost and complexity?

I appreciate any insight that you might have.

Tom Lynch.

Congratulations Richard! We've had ours for 17 years now and have loved it.
Pretty sure you will to. If you get around to the Chesapeake Bay stop by and
tie up.

Also, if you ever need old used parts I've got a bunch lying around. ;-)

Hello friends; I am happy to let you know that I have just received delivery of
my fourth (yes 4th!), C&C; a 1985 37; centerboard model. We had many issues
getting it trucked in from Newburyport, MA; mostly weather related, but some
delays due to the trucking company.

It is in pretty good shape, however, because we're in this deep freeze I wont
be able to make a really good assessment of what needs to be done until it
warms up a bit. I will have a million questions then!

A C&C is a novelty here on the Ohio River; the only ones anyone around here
have seen have been those which we have brought in; first we brought a 1982 25
from Austin Texas; then a 1985 29-2 from Cleveland; then a 1987 33-2 from
Jacksonville, Fl, and now the 37; the 29 went to Tennessee, but the 25 is
still here; and of course the 33-2 is up for sale-I am what the realtors call a
"motivated seller"!;

The local guys asked me why I stayed with the C&C; I thought about it;
originally I bought the 25 without knowing anything about C&C's other than a
general reputation for being quality boats; after I had the boat a while, I
was impressed by the workmanship on the 25 so when I wanted to move up, I
looked at the 29s; then when we wanted something bigger, I went for the sailing
ability of the 33-2; now, I figure I have enough research knowledge (mostly
through the collective wisdom of this group) and hands-on experience that I
couldn't go wrong in staying in the C&C line. The truth is, I looked at other
brands and simple kept coming back to the C&C; as someone said in the recent
thread about taxes; the C&Cs are the best bang for your buck and they sail
better than anything else out there.

Many thanks,

Richard
