I have 2 boats full of Garhauer stuff: rigid vangs, line adjustable genoa
cars, all the blocks, the traveler on the 38, the backstay adjuster on the
25, snatch blocks (which are really slick), line organizers to bring the
lines back to the clutches, even the 6:1 falls on the dinghy davits on the
38. The only thing left on either boat that has not been replaced with
Garhauer hardware is the traveler on the 25. I'll probably replace that if I
don't sell the boat soon.

I really like the quality and function of the stuff - obviously - but the
service that Guido and the others give is just amazing. When I bought the
traveler for the 38 I got a custom length, custom brackets for the jam
cleats to facilitate adjusting from the helm when single handing, and a
taller than normal traveler track drilled to match the pattern of the old
one to ease installation in the trough in the bridge deck. All at the cost
of the standard traveler. And when I rerigged the 25, they made a new
bracket for the bottom of the rigid vang to fit the Kenyon mast at no cost
except shipping - which was a big surprise.

So my 15000 pound boat is a 5 or 6 - heck, call it 10 - pounds heavier than
if I had used other brands of hardware. But all this stuff was also 2 or 3
thousand dollars less than if I had used other brands.

Unless you have high tech lines in the clutches and need what I now know are
the Lewmar clutches to handle them, I'd recommend the Garhauer as your best
choice.

I have a 30-1 full of Garhauer stuff and I like all of it. I only have one
of their clutches (put the other brand on before I heard about Garhauer) and
I am very pleased with it. It is on the main halyard, where I want to have
no slip and it does just that, replacing one of the other brand which didn't
hold as well. Other than the other clutches and a couple of old snatch
blocks, the rest of the boat is Garhauer.

Subject: Stus-List Re Spinlock clutches

Sam Salter says "I've got Spinlock clutches. I think they are the best on
the market."

Dwight Veinot says "I prefer Lewmar clutches."

My 1979 C&C 30 mk1 has Easy-Lock clutches: a triple on the starboard side, a
double and a single on the port.

I've been planning to replace them with 2 triples for the last 3 years, but
I'm indecisive. I can buy Spinlock or Lewmar at The Binnacle or mail order
Garhauer.

I don't see a lot of Garhauer products around here but I ordered 2 Garhauer
snatch blocks last season and I like them a lot.

Can I ask for more heated argument about the relative merits of rope
clutches?

Thanks
