I'm running Yale PhD - single braid and FSE Rob line - single braid through my Spinlock XAS 's. I also run that cheap, white stuff that comes with the Garhauer rigid vang. I've got some other hi-tech double braid on my Cunningham. (There's a double either side of the companionway)
I don't get any noticeable slip. Before I went hi-tech, I ran some "middle of the road " double braid through them. They are 3or4 seasons old.
We also fit Lewmars to the Macgregor's we sell at the marina. These are the clutches that Practical Sailor liked. I think Lewmars are good clutches too.

Subject: Stus-List Re Spinlock clutches

Sam Salter says “I've got Spinlock clutches. I think they are the best on the market.

Dwight Veinot says “I prefer Lewmar clutches.”

My 1979 C&C 30 mk1 has Easy-Lock clutches: a triple on the starboard side, a double and a single on the port.

I’ve been planning to replace them with 2 triples for the last 3 years, but I’m indecisive. I can buy Spinlock or Lewmar at The Binnacle or mail order Garhauer.

I don’t see a lot of Garhauer products around here but I ordered 2 Garhauer snatch blocks last season and I like them a lot.

Can I ask for more heated argument about the relative merits of rope clutches?

Thanks
