Right, the Harken roller furler is the real deal. I have a Doyle 135 crosscut Dacron with foam luff on a harken furler.great combo and all round headsail.works good furled to 110 and is quite good to weather in air down to 8-10 apparent on my 35 MKII. Even better, sometimes the main stays packed on the boom when we are lazy or when I am sailing alone and then having a 135 in stead of a 110 is a nice benefit. I no longer change headsails, just the size of the headsail which is marked along the foot so that I can easily select the appropriate LP, 110, 120, 130 or anywhere in between

Those considering moving to a more cruise oriented mode, Do you have a roller furler? IMHO, a furler is the absolute best option for cruising. I'd pop for a furler over a smaller sail any time. Add a tape drive or foam luff genoa and you're good to go. When I bought Touche', the first thing I put on it was a Harken roller furler. Never looked back! We go out for a day sail, roll out the old Dacron crosscut genoa, sail a bit, roll it up and dock the boat. Easy. We also race the boat. The Harken double slot furler are great for that. We have a full suit of racing sails. Some fit the furler, some don't. If you are convinced that your serious racing days are over, consider one of Harken's new ESP cruising furlers. Dennis C. We currently have a laminate 140% for our boat that we've used for years but we often sailed/cruised with our old racing crewmates so dragging that across the decks was not a big deal. Now that my wife and I cruise by ourselves we're considering a 98% to 110% at most. Our rational is similar, no longer in race mode, cruising in light is fine by us as we relax and don't worry about how much speed is lost. Which isn't the same as not trying to get the max out of the sail, right? Your boat is so easily-driven, I would have thought you could easily make do with a 135...even in the vacuum called Long Island Sound. I'm thinking/hoping that I may be able to make do with a 110 here in Newport. We are just talking about cruising, after all. The journey is the destination.
