This whole conversation smacks of ageing gracefully... We are all fortunate indeed!

Have raced very competitively for many years with shelves of trophies to attest to the many good times we had. Have made many good friends over the years and enjoyed many a good time. We have a well found, well equipped and well performing boat that just no longer seems up to the rigors of competitive racing. Hassles of crew are the major issue. We need 7. Good crew requires not only technical competency but also consistency and harmonious personal dynamics. Folks just do not have the time to commit to a season schedule these days. Expense of sails and gear also a major issue. To be competitive means major expenditures every year. Wear and tear on the boat and systems are also an issue. So we are transitioning to the cruising scene and outfitting the boat with anchor systems, dodger, etc. We find there are lots of folks of like mind so are enjoying new friends. Just love the way our vintage C&C totally outperforms the new designs, so get our racing urges satisfied this way. Life is more relaxed and the fun just takes on a different perspective. Listers, Though I thought this day would never come (and I'm not saying it has yet), but given the difficulties in lining up crew, keeping them committed on a regular basis, and the costs, I'd like to know people's experiences in transitioning from racing their C&C to a life of cruising. Anyone here done it? Are you happy you did? I'm very curious to hear your stories, including the successes and regrets, if any. All the best, Edd Edd M.
