Danny: My dad used to tell me to always buy the best tools or instruments I 
can't afford. It's been good advice. Boating is supposed to be fun and buying 
the least expensive gear will reduce the fun factor considerably. The Sitex is 
a pretty blunt instrument compared to the others you have been looking at. I 
suggest spending a bit more and increasing your enjoyment significantly. The 
cost differential spread over time is minimal.

Yes, Si-Tex has been around for a while, but mostly in the inexpensive radar 
and fishfinder side of things.  Caveat emptor...
