Now to my debugging questions :-)

1a: why are you using a serial mouse and what sort of keyboard do you have?
1b: are these devices connected through a kvm ?
2: did you try booting without the mouse and keyboard connected, then plugged 
them after the boot process have finished?
3: why are you using a serial mouse?
4: have you tried the alternate installer instead of the (desktop) one?
