I encounter the same problem too since version 0.93.
I run FreeBSD 6.2 and zlib 1.2.3
Version 0.92 runs fine (still with FreeBSD 6.2 and zlib 1.2.3).

Whenever new signatures are available, the cdiff files are downloaded,
the file "main.cvd" is removed and replaced by a file "main.cld".
Freshclam then signals clamd that it has to reload the signature
and clamd aborts at this time with

LibClamAV Error: cli_tgzload: Unknown type flag 'r'
LibClamAV Error: Can't load /local/data/clamav/debug/var/lib/daily.cld: Malforme
d database
ERROR: Malformed database

If you remove main.cvd before doing freshclam, the whole updated file is
downloaded and no problem happen. It is a workaround but I fear it is not
what clamav team want us to do.
