I figured it out.  It does work!

You do need one of the latest IOS though: 12.3.26 or 12.4.5

I do have that IOS on my 2610's BB routers.

Problem was that I was being VERY stupid!

I was thinking that I could get the "encapsulation" command on the Main
Ethernet interface.

That will NEVER happen.  It is available ONLY on the sub-interfaces!

When I created one, then the encapsulation was available there!

I should have known that.  That was very silly!  Sorry about that.

HI Carlos,

On my personal home rack, my 2610s do not have this feature either.  I think
you can do it on a FastEthernet interface though...

Hello Joe,

Any word on this?

I'm just curious to know how you are able to do Trunking on a 10-BaseT
interface.

I thought that wasn't possible.  At least not on a 2610!

I've tried with several IOS versions including the latest one (12.3.26) and the
"encapsulation" command is not available.

Please let me know.  Thank you!

Hi Carlos,

As soon as I can get access to a Proctor Labs rack, I will let you know.

Hello Joe,

Could you please tell me what IOS version you use in your 2610 BB Routers?

Labs Vol 3.9 & 3.10 use encapsulation dot1q  on the Ethernet interfaces on
these Routers.

But so far I have NOT found an IOS version that allows do1Q on an Ethernet
 interface.
I thoughy you could only do that with a Fast Ethernet interface.

Could you please let me know?

Thank you!

Hey Terry,

Well, in our topology we have Cat2-Cat4 as 3560 like you said.  I would have
to go through every lab and really see if there are any situations where you

HAVE to have a 3560 to do something on a particular switch.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Question about topology

Hi Guys,

I use dynamips and 4 real switches in my personal rack. I have 2 3550's

and 2 3560's.  I see that the Version 11 Workbook 1 topology has 3
3560's, well that's not happening financially over here for quite
sometime (if ever if my wife is to be believed).  My question is where

should I use the 2 3560's to get the best coverage of capabilities?  I
have to assume it will make a difference on some of the Switching labs,
but I don't see a huge impact on the layer 3 stuff other than IPv6.

Thanks,
Terry
