Purely speculative, one or more board members may prefer to dress down for the occasion with their Zoom mullet for the meetings (aka in-person meetings would require pants)?
More likely the answer would be that the various board members are spread out over the city and Zoom makes it very convenient without 2 hours of round trip travel… and allows for anyone of the 350+ members to attend from anywhere in the world. The meetings I have attended, majority of the board had their cameras on, so face to face did occur. Drops $0.02, sarcasm, and 73’s in the bucket.
