You are getting sound out of your headphones with Master at 0% and PCM at 0%? Whatever. That dopesn't make a whole lot of sense. Did you send this output _while_ you were actually getting sound out of your headphones. That is correct. I am listening to music through the headphones that are connected to the LiveDrive. Other controls from alsamixer that affect their volume are "Wave", "Bass", "Treble", "Headphones" and the other "EMU10K1 PCM"* controls.
I have no mic select
Probably because I have one mic input on the Live Drive too.
My mix 0 is set to Capture: on and I can't dis-enable it, i.e. hitting space bar or m changes nothing. Why would that be?It is in a group with some others (sort of like a radio-button group). On mine the group seems to be "Line", "CD", "Mic", "Video", "Phone", "Aux", "Mix", "Mix Mono". Exactly one of these has to be selected for capture it seems.
Oh yes. What do you think? Is my hardare bad? What versin of ALSA are you using? As you mentioned, your SB Live is a different version than mine, though I didn't (and I still don't) think they are fundamentally different at least with respect to headphone output.

The only thing I can think of is "Did you adjust the headphones' volume knob on the Live!Drive as appropriate?". I can offer no other way of helping out, so you could only hope someone with the same card as yours shows up. If you have any ideas about something I can do - welcome you are.
