The issue is parents rights to control the worldview of their children. Some
people are very narrow minded and do not want extraneous info coming into the
minds of their kids from a school teacher. They don’t want a teacher
pontificating on gay/trans/BLM/defund the police/recreational drugs/premarital
sex/ etc. I believe parents have a sacred duty to protect their children.
Some believe that means protecting them from any worldview other than their
own. Many of them point to religious ideals as justification for their
methods.

So, I understand that. And I accept that kids need to not be forced to
confront controversial ideas when in elementary school. Stick to the three Rs.
The other stuff will come later. But activists have pushed trans ideology in
our elementary schools here trying to convince elementary kids they are trans.
I am wholly against that. I don’t think you even know what your sexuality is
until you are at least 65. In any event, that kind of behavior by teachers is
stepping way over the line. As is political rhetoric from an elementary school
teacher.

Stars and Bars, BLM, Swastica, Rainbow, MAGA, Knights of Columbus, Masons all
are the same. All represent an ideology that some find repugnant. So best to
not allow any special interest flags. Keep it sterile. Let the parents have
the freedom to mess up their kids. As has always been allowed. Why should
only Rainbow get a carve out to be “special”?

Rainbow flags aren't political. If someone thinks it's political, they may be a
bigot.

I grew up with zero LGBT representation or exposure. No TV shows, movies,
rainbow flags, supportive people, etc.

Yet I still knew I liked guys more than girls at a younger age. I didn't
officially come out as gay until 33 because of the bigots in our world. I have
supportive friends and family today but I wish I was told that being gay was
acceptable in middle or highschool.

If I grew up around people or seeing anything saying LGBT was okay and I'd be
supported, I would have come out much sooner. If there was a highschool teacher
with a rainbow flag or just anything that showed they were an accepting
teacher, I may have felt more comfortable.

I hate that bigots attack Disney or any other TV or movie that has one LGBT
character. It's called representation and it's not different than having black,
Asian, or women characters. 24% of Gen Z identify as LGBT in the latest Gallup
poll.

It's time to stop hating on people for being born a certain way. The only
choice an LGBT person has is to live a fake life in the closet or come out and
be happy and authentic.

So back to your flags. A Nazi flag is a symbol of hate and is political.
Something like a rainbow flag is not political. It simply represents a group of
people who are marginalized and hated by bigots for being born different. It's
a flag of support and not any political organization.

Am I decked out in rainbows like some? No. But I always feel better when I see
one knowing whoever flies it doesn't hate me.
