Years ago I started a wisp that grew to over 6000 subs.  

Part way through I decided to send out a letter to all the subs on the lowest 
tier.  (The majority of them were on the lowest tier.)
I said something like: Dear customer,  we have decided to eliminate our economy 
plan.  We have few customers on that plan and we have decided to streamline our 
rates. 

I calculated that if we lost more than 200 customers by forcing them to change 
to a higher plan, it would have been a mistake to do this.  We lost about 40.  
And some of them came back.
