I won't claim to know a lot about any ag business but that doesn't make sense. A full grown animal represents a lot of money in feed. Killing grown stock to make room for growing stock means you are putting more money into feed, antibiotics, etc, along with associuated loss percentages. Full grown loss is less than juvenile loss. Maybe your right, that just isn't the way the cattle business works. Of course maybe the gestational cycle and time difference to adulthood makes a difference.
I just know every pound on an animal represents cost so if you are going to kill something, kill the unproven babies before they cost you more money.
