They are operating more like a software company than a car company. Their ability to roll out updates to cars in the field is very un-Detroit. I don't know that they are trying to be different so much as they look at problems with a distinctly different perspective from existing ICE manufacturers. The fact that most of the ICE manufacturers have been making cars for the better part of a century also means that they might be slow on absorbing this new reality.

The thing is, Tesla seems to be trying very hard to not behave like a car company... and a lot of the time, it seems like they do things the way they do just for the sake of being different. I never dealt with the sales side of Tesla (I bought mine used from local dealer), but I have to say that dealing with the service center was, overall, a pretty good experience. The people there went out of their way to be helpful. On Sun, Oct 27, 2019 at 1:19 PM Robert Andrews <i...@avantwireless.com> wrote:Yeah, the whole thing about buying off the website and not having real sales people in the showrooms is biting them in the ass and not showing a good side to the company. There are a lot of parts of Tesla that are fundamentally broken as far as a Company goes. You always want to sell a product that sells itself, but that doesn't mean that a company can ignore the fundamentals of good customer interaction and support. The blocking and tackling of being a company. On 10/27/2019 05:55 AM, Lewis Bergman wrote:I looked at one when I was in Dallas at the mall. So basically the car can very close to drive you around with any model they sell right now, but it's no where close to what they consider autopilot. The car itself will also be 'licensed' to drive, and not necessarily the passenger in the "driver's seat". I expect the auto insurance business to take a drastic hit at the point self-driving is widespread. Being in a self driving car let alone being in the drivers seat is too stressful for me. My family had a discussion about DUI and self driving cars last weekend. What is the consequences of being under the influence and getting behind the wheel of a self driving car? If the car is doing the driving and the person in the drivers seat is impaired but not driving, can a person be held responsible for DUI? They are not technically driving. And considering this is just the beginning of the trend toward self driving cars, at what point do states start putting laws on the books regarding this? I'm sure the states are already scrambling to figure out how to replace lost revenue from fines. I'm certainly not promoting that someone should do this but we all know it is going to be a court case that will be sent all the way to the top at some point.
