Folks:

We’ve been aware of these documents for some time, and have used them
successfully in the past. In light of the current conversation, though,
ironically, my Windows System Administrator was working through the Best
Practices for Recovering Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 document

https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/Tivoli%20Storage%20Manager/page/Best%20Practices%20for%20Recovering%20Windows%20Server%202012%20and%20Windows%208

using the TSM client for Windows v7.1.6.4 when he came across this gem.

The instructions state
a. Unpack the Tivoli Storage Manager Backup-Archive client installation files
into the media subdirectory of the WinPE destination directory you specified in
step 2b above.

1. Run the installation package executable file.

2. When prompted for the folder name in which to save the installation files,
specify the media subdirectory of the WinPE destination directory you specified
in step 2b above. For example, c:\winpe_x64\media.

However, when he run the installation package installation file, he wasn’t
prompted for a folder name - rather, the files were written to a directory
named TSMClient created in the same location as the downloaded installation
package (e.g. package was downloaded to C:\Users\<userid>\Downloads - and the
created directory was thus C:\Users\<userid>\Downloads\TSMClient).

Further, there is no mention of the “TSMClient” directory in the document.

Now, it seems pretty obvious what we should do - namely, copy the files in the
newly created “TSMClient” directory to the “c:\winpe_x64\media” directory. But
what we don’t know is how further steps might be impacted.

Has anyone attempted to do a recovery with a 7.1.6.x client for Windows? We’d
appreciate any knowledge you have to share.
