This is very easy to change. Will do that.
Up till now, one of the (many) discreet strengths of XXE has
been that the user can choose whichever navigation option is more
appropriate.
As for asking reviewers to change their way of working to suit an
upgraded version of the software, that – I'm afraid – is not going to
happen! the certification labs, to give just one example, use the
section numbering to match our input to their checklists; also, there
are repeated sequences of title A > title B > title C, so there could be
multiple topics with the same title. (terminal type A > operations >
troubleshooting; terminal type B > operations > troubleshooting;
terminal type C > operations > troubleshooting)
OK.
In short, if it came to a vote I for one would be strongly in favour of
retaining the Navigation pane option. It delivers useful information
which is not available elsewhere in the interface.
We understand. However this is unlikely to happen in the near future.
Now please let us explain why.
XMLmind XML Editor is a generic XML editor, not a DITA editor. Keeping
the Navigation pane in XXE means implementing this feature, maintaining
it, enhancing it for:
* DITA,
* DocBook+XInclude,
* DocBook v5.1+ assemblies,
* May be also XHTML5 assemblies/maps, a new document type we are very
motivated to create and promote.
This represents a lot of work for a small company like ours. Moreover,
we are convinced that the main benefit of a Navigation pane was the
extended cross-reference creation/validation facilities provided by this
tool, more than its navigation facilities. The extended cross-reference
creation/validation facilities are now provided by more straightforward
to use "Use as Master Document". See tutorial with screencast Working
with master documents:
