maybe you are right here and i should add some more checking, but:
how does a missing /usr/bin/ps2epsi make a command like 'ps2epsi
file.ps' print anything at all?

i have heard of a (probably broken/misconfigured) ps2epsi piping output
directly to `lpr`. if that is the problem, could anybody tell me how to
test for this?
