Yes - I mentioned that as when you said you could not get it to install I
did this:
1. Loaded up my VMWare "Installer Test XP" VM - this is a base Win XP SP3
install
2. Installed the VS 2008 Shell (integrated mode)
3. Opened up VS 2008 - it loaded fine - did a bit of "configuring" itself -
I then exited
4. Installed WiX 3.0.5217 - no problems
5. Opened VS 2008 and the WiX templates were there
And independently of this I build all my Installers in a separate VM which
is configured just like above + a few more useful Installer Tools (Win
Installer SDK etc) - it was some ancient WiX 3 build I originally had on
this and I have since installed many updates all without problem.
So I am not sure why you are having problems with this. I would suggest
running the WiX intsaller with verbose logging to see what it is tripping
over.
