Hello Amir, The proposal is interesting, measuring Wikipedias and languages is always interesting. However, there may be concerns about how the list is generated, as some topics may be only relevant to English Wikipedia (there are gazillions of articles about places in the US). The "What to do" lists are also generated from projects at English Wikipedia, so there may be some bias there about what is relevant or what not.
However, a similar effort exists using the Expanded list of articles every Wikipedia should have (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_articles_every_Wikipedia_should_have/Expanded) where 10,000 articles are measured every month at: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias_by_expanded_sample_of_articles. It would be great to have some live coverage here, instead of a bot measuring it every month, and also some discussion on how to make it more granular and interesting, but at least the list there can be discussed, amended and agreed (if there's people willing to do that). If it motivates people to create an “article writing” bot, the articles are going to be that much more useless to the Wikipedia reader. The English Wikipedia community is perhaps the largest, and yet, there are still many, many abandoned articles left to rot. The ultimate goal should be to create a great offer to readers. Content relevance and content quality is key. I tried to explain that in this video: https://youtu.be/a3T5_7C_BtI?si=XuNsRBJ5gbm2V2Ja When it comes to the ranking of Wikipedia language versions... it would be the question why we should do that anyway. When the bigger Wikipedia does not cover what is important given existing articles, the usefulness of that bigger Wikipedia is not great. This implies that translations of content will not necessarily improve the usefulness of the smaller Wikipedia. There are more details and result of the measurement in https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Ladsgroup/coverage_ranking_of_Wikipedia_languages TLDR is that it penalizes a wiki for not having an article that exists in other language, the higher the number of wikis that has the article, the higher the penalty would be, either power of two or power of three (to be decided) of that number. Then wikis with lower penalty rank higher. This incentivizes wikis to create articles in topics that matter and would be read by our readers. I would appreciate your feedback on the talk page of the proposal. Also, if this needs to be brought up in some other venues as well, it would be amazing if I'm told where, so I can bring it up.
