Subject: Re: [Wikimedia-l] Re: Proposal to add a new ranking of Wikipedia
languages: Coverage
Hi all,

Thanks a lot Amir, that's a very interesting perspective on Wikipedias'
coverage.

I don't think that each Wikipedia notability standard impact that much the
score, since if many Wikipedias have an article on a topic then it's
probably admissible everywhere (and the French Wikipedia is known to be
more restrictive than most Wikipedia but still is second) ; also "small"
wikipedia often have "local" specific articles that other "big " WIkipedia
may not have ; so it counterbalance a bit by also penalizing the big
Wikipedia.
I'm more wondering about the impact of the Bonnie & Clyde or
Turtle/Tortoise cases (when one Wikipedia have one article on a subject and
other Wikipedia have two articles for the same subject), it's probably
negligible on the grand total of articles but I'd love to see it quantified.

Something also useful would be to have a list of the articles most missing
on a Wikipedia. For instance, what is the articles missing on Wikipedia in
X that has the most sitelinks? It would be useful for people who don't know
what "important" articles to create on their own Wikipedia.

Cheers,
Nicolas
