I'm in the process of writing a howto for using SSH with the VNC Java applet. I'll post a rough version within a day or two. VNC over SSH or Zebedee is what most people do. There is a Windows only VNC distribution with Zebedee encryption built in: http://people.we.mediaone.net/ddyer/znc/zvnc.html If you are familiar with OpenSSH on Linux, it is pretty easy to get VNC over SSH working. I don't know the best SSH client (or server) to use on Windows, although I like PuTTY as an interactive client. AT&T's VNC site has basic instructions: http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/sshvnc.html Zebedee might be easier to set up for a novice, especially in Windows (or mixed) environments, but I've never used it myself: http://www.winton.org.uk/zebedee/ There is an alpha Java version of Zebedee which could be integrated with the Java VNC client, but I am not aware of anyone trying it yet. The RFB 4.0 specification will accomodate a simpler means of getting encryption going, but it is in its infancy.
