Thanks, Constantin, Yes, I did make sure the classes were there in the path provided. I just grep'd the vncserver script for $vncClasses to make sure. The errors are different than for being unable to find classes (I had lots of those until I read the java man page more carefully and tried a few syntax variations, thus arriving the apparently right one in my posting). Is there anything more that I've overlooked?
I'm also getting the same problem in the Microsoft InternetExplorer java viewer, invoked by specifying http://blahblahblah.blah.blooh:5801 . Here, I get nontightVNC *only* when I access vncserver running on my university account from my laptop. Both laptop and university installations are tightVNC (the server log file confirms that tight encoding is being used). I'm also co-op'ing in a company, where I've also installed solaris-based tightVNC on my account. I don't have the same problem accessing that solaris-based server when my laptop is on the local LAN. It is the same laptop, with the same tightVNC, but I do get tight encoding options. In fact, both these conflicting behaviours are occurring in the same laptop session ie. simultaneously, I have one MSIE window accessing the server in the company, with tightVNC options, and a 2nd MSIE window accessing the university with no tightVNC options, even though the server at the university has tight encoding capability. Very strange.....though I don't doubt it is probably something I'm doing that's causing it. Fred P.S. I've noticed that the MSIE java viewer tends to lock up an become unresponsive if focus is temporarily switched to another application. At first, it seemed that disconnecting and reconnecting solved it, but it often persists. I've found the control-q brings the viewer session back to life again. Is this intended behaviour for some undocumented functionality? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Ma Department of Electronics Carleton University, Mackenzie Building 1125 Colonel By Drive Ottawa, Ontario Canada K1S 5B6 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ==========================================================================Constantin Kaplinsky wrote: > Hello > > >>>>> "F" == Fred <Shing-Fat> writes: > > F> Hello, I've been using the MS IE java viewer on the laptop, seems > F> great.
