As far as finding which tcp ports are accessable, I have seen two programs
which might be of assistance:

firewalk: http://www.packetfactory.net/firewalk/

and

tcptraceroute: http://michael.toren.net/code/tcptraceroute/

I haven't actually tried either, the former is beyond what I neded, and
the latter wont compile on Red hat 6.1 (it can't yacc my bison, or some
such nonsense). Either should allow you to see what tcp packets get
through, and who is in between.
