With the iPhone being the most often stolen phone, the less I have to take
my phone out of my pocket, the better I'd like it. I use a Bluetooth ear
peace and it would really be nice if I could do my tapping from my pocket.
So anything that reduces the time my phone is out of my pocket is peachy
dandy by me.

Hello James,
The 3-finger double tap works fine as far as it goes. If I remember
correctly you live in the south somewhere and probably don't deal with
cold
temperatures which require you to wear a heavy coat for 5 months out of
the
year along with gloves. If you did and had to start digging for your phone
every time you were out and about with your phone tugged away and then
take
off a glove to use the touch screen you might agree with me and support
the
fact that this most likely could be addressed. David from New Zealand
mentioned that he likes his notifications spoken so I think Apple should
at
least look at the possibility to offer this as an option in Voiceover and
I
am going to send them feedback to that extend.
As I said, it is my understanding that not everybody is dealing with this
and if you are not then I am happy for you, but it's also not very
insightful to recommend a work-around to an annoying problem as that does
not do anything to improve the situation. That is no different than to
suggest that maybe I should let voice mail take the call and then to call
back from a landline or when I am inside and have normal access to my
phone.
This would also solve the problem, but it's not a reasonable solution. We
all have to keep in mind that there are people from all over the world on
this list and people from all sorts of backgrounds and what maybe
completely
fine for you may not be for somebody else.
Regards,
Sieghard

Well ya know, a simple 3 finger double tap once in a call will have
voiceover "shut up" as long as you want. Or of course one could be too
lazy
to do that and push for more complicated coding that increases the
possibility of resulting bugs. It takes more time to complain about
voiceover reading when you don't want it to than it would to just not be
too
lazy to use your available commands to make it not do so.

Hi Peter,
I just opened an email and double tapped on "Reply" and Voiceover put
focus on "Reply" which is the first item in the list. It seems that
this is an issue which happens in some cases and maybe on some devices.
I have a similar problem with Voiceover volume during a call if I am
not using a headset. Ever since iOS 6 I am not able to turn Voiceover
volume up independently from the call volume, at least I am not able
to balance Voiceover volume and call volume where I can comfortably
have the phone on speakerphone and dial numbers or hear voice prompts.
Apparently not everybody has this problem and my 4S also keeps on
reading out call duration every 20 seconds while on a call no matter
what I do. If I flick focus away from the call duration, the screen
locks after a while and within about 30 seconds Voiceover resumes
announcing the call duration. For me I would consider those 2 items
the most inconvenient bugs in addition to the fact that Voiceover
reads incoming push notification, messages etc. when on a call, Apple
should really fix it so that Voiceover shuts up completely with
respect to automatic announcements when a phone call is in progress.

Sieghard
