If you switch I would also consider an Outlook.com account (what used to be Hotmail and later Microsoft Live Mail). I know Gmail is extremely popular, but I still prefer Microsoft Exchange especially if you are a Windows user. IMAP is fine, but as far as I know it only syncs email and not contacts, calendars etc. If you sign up for an account like [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>, all you do is when you set it up in the Outlook program is to enter your email address and password and Outlook configures everything and all your email, contacts and so on will sync. Of course if you start from scratch you would have to somehow import your contacts after first exporting them, but once it’s in Outlook you are set. I have been using first Hotmail and later my Outlook.com account I think for almost 20 years and whenever I get a new computer I never even have to think about backing up my email because it’s all on the Outlook.com server. When I buy a new computer I set up my account and let it sync and a few minutes later everything is there.
