Dave, you are correct.  VirtualBox 2.1.2 and later should not require
usbfs to be mounted, in /etc/fstab or anywhere else.  That said,
everything should still work if it is (correctly) mounted.

Jim, I assume that you have not mounted usbfs.  I would be interested in
anything that you find out about this issue (most of all, a way in which
I can reproduce it!)  There are clearly some bugs lurking in the new USB
support, but of course, it all works fine here...
