Same problem here: Dell Studio XPS Laptop 1647 It's definitely something with powermanagement when using battery.
When I enable my build-in webcam the system freezes within 10 seconds. Even when I attach my tiny Ipod Shuffle the system freezes. I managed to keep my system stable by doing 2 things: - Reduce the backlight - Use the Catalyst Control Center.
