I've made this same point on past IRC meetings and here on the list.  I
personally believe the magazine should cater to everyone but there are
strong voices that it should be more of a marketing tool (hence our
group's involvement) over a communications tool. 

I think over the past several weeks and with us fleshing out a sample
table of contents, we have mostly agreed with what you (and others) have
proposed.

But the discussion doesn't end there.  Everyone is entitled to an
opinion. We happen to share the same opinion here, others do not. What
will matter equally, if not actually have more emphasis, is whether or
not we can produce sufficient cross-skill content for the magazine.  As
"Nixy Rich" will point out, there is some overlap today between the
newsletter and the Magazine which Sara, Jenda, Rich and others have been
discussing about with the project team.

I encourage you to come to meetings, make your thoughts heard, and sign
up for work. :-)
