Thanks for your detailed informations about your bug report. Can you
change the values in /etc/usplash.conf to this :

xres=1024
yres=768

and then run this command on a terminal :

sudo update-initramfs -u

After this, the modifications should be applied to your computer and you
*should* see usplash. Can you confirm that it works? Note that you
should put the good resolution in the /etc/usplash.conf file. If your
ubuntu system use a lower resolution than 1024x768, you should prefer
that resolution for /etc/usplash.conf.
