I can confirm that my DVD-RW and my CD-RW are connected to the JMicron Controller. Only my HDDs are connected to the ICH8. I just bought an ASUS P5B mobo (and CPU, hard drives, and video card) that until this all gets cleared up is acting as a $900 paperweight. I just wanted to say thanks to Bill for working on this. I realize that it must be hard to fix a problem that's hardware related when most of the people are complaining instead of offerring info.
As for myself, I'd offer anything i could, but i've never even used linux yet.
