I found the previous versions of the four udev packages listed above (it
appears to list the old and upgrade software) and installed (downgraded)
them with sudo dpkg -i *deb. I rebooted and then things got a bit more
whacky. The mouse jumped around alot, but only at first, and I didn't
even need to touch the trackpad for this to happen; more than once, the
keyboard was unresponsive and the Unity panel would not show up if I
moved the mouse (external optical) over to it; at least once (I had to
reboot several times), the external optical mouse was detected, and then
immediately wasn't detected, as shown in 'xinput list'. All the
while, my battery was draining, getting close to empty, so I plugged in
the power, and rebooted again. This time, I regained control with the
external mouse and the keyboard, but still the trackpad is detected as
PS/2 Generic Mouse. I'm still using the 3.3.7 kernel, though things
don't seem to be different with 3.9.0.
