So just now, two days after my post above (which is as long as I've gone
without a problem in several weeks), I was sitting here with my laptop
on my lap, and the trackpad crapped out. I can't say it was caused in
correlation with anything. I wasn't doing anything terribly unusual:
rhythmbox, VNC, headphones, firefox...The mouse jumped erratically once
or twice, and 'xinput list' showed no trackpad detected before quickly
displaying the trackpad being detected, again, as a PS/2 Generic Mouse.
I have been running the 3.3.7 kernel these past few days. I shutdown
and rebooted, and nothing changed (except the mouse jumped once at the
login screen, as if the machine was deciding what to do...). I then
shutdown and rebooted again, but this time to the 3.9.0 kernel
and...still no response on the trackpad. The mouse jumped once, but now
'xinput list' shows NO trackpad detected. I am, once again, at a loss.
Please, please help! I don't want to have to argue my warranty policy
with the Lenovo customer service people...
